EU summit – budget blockade by Hungary and Poland not yet resolved

The EU budget blockade by Hungary and Poland was only briefly discussed by the EU heads of state and of government during their video conference. According to a decision by the President of the EU Council, Michel, the deliberations are to continue outside the summit. At the beginning of this week, the said two member states vetoed the approval of the EUR 1.8 trillion financial package because funds can be reduced, according to the plan, if the rule of law is violated by individual member states. Chancellor Merkel does not expect a quick solution to the budget dispute.
