Germany donates vaccination doses to developing countries

(GermanPolicy.com) – Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) has announced that the Federal Republic of Germany will donate all deliveries of the vaccine from AstraZeneca that have yet to arrive in Germany directly to the Covax vaccination initiative. The international initiative will then pass them on to developing countries. The first tranche to Covax is 1.3 million units.

“It is in our very own national interest to vaccinate the world. Because this pandemic is only really over when the virus is under global control,” said Spahn, according to media reports. In addition, 1.7 million doses by Johnson & Johnson, which Germany would be entitled to, will not be called up in August by Germany. They can be delivered to other EU countries or passed on to developing countries as well.
