If the SPD leads the coming Federal Government, the SPD parliamentary group leader in the German Bundestag, Rolf Mützenich, refuses to respect NATO’s two percent target. “Against the background, I don’t think that you can really trust the SPD’s candidate for Chancellor in matters of security and NATO,” commented Kramp-Karrenbauer.

Mützenich considers the two percent target to be dispensable. “The interests of Germany and NATO would be better ensured if we set out in the next coalition agreement how we want to tackle the security challenges,” Mützenich said three weeks ago, according to a media report.
