(de-news.net) – FDP leader Christian Lindner defended the handling of the “D-Day strategy paper” concerning the coalition exit, asserting that it was a draft document prepared by staff and subsequently leaked to the public. He emphasized the professionalism of staff in considering various scenarios, noting that Chancellor Olaf Scholz had similarly prepared multiple speeches for different potential outcomes.
FDP General Secretary Bijan Djir-Sarai resigned after acknowledging that he had unknowingly provided incorrect information regarding the internal document. He claimed to have had no knowledge of the document’s creation or content and apologized for the misinformation.
FDP Federal Managing Director Carsten Reymann also resigned, citing his intention to facilitate a personnel restructuring within the party. He admitted to creating the strategy paper, which included terms such as “D-Day” and “open field battle,” and highlighted the role of the federal office in planning potential political scenarios.
SPD General Secretary Matthias Miersch expressed profound shock and a sense of personal betrayal over the FDP’s plans to intentionally dissolve the coalition. He criticized FDP leader Lindner’s accusation that the SPD aimed to destroy the FDP, describing it as an absurd and desperate attempt to deflect blame. Miersch demanded an apology from Lindner, although he expressed doubt about Lindner’s willingness to offer one.
