Merz outlines five-point plan concerning illegal immigration

(de-news.net) – CDU leader Friedrich Merz declared that, upon winning the election and on his first day as Chancellor, he would implement comprehensive border controls, effectively instituting a ban on illegal immigration. He also called for the detention of all individuals required to leave the country until their departure. This announcement follows a knife attack by an Afghan national in Aschaffenburg, which resulted in two fatalities and several injuries.

Merz outlined a five-point plan, stressing an impossibility to compromise with potential coalition partners such as the Greens. Merz dismissed concerns regarding opposition from coalition partners and characterized recent violent incidents and criticized the nation’s asylum and immigration policies over the past decade.

On his first day in office, Merz would direct the Interior Ministry to enforce permanent border controls and thus reject all attempts at illegal entry. He also proposed empowering the Federal Police to request arrest warrants. Individuals obliged to leave the country would be detained until deportation. Merz suggested that the federal government should assume a greater role in deportations to alleviate the burden on the states, with deportations to take place on a daily basis. Finally, he pledged to amend residency laws to permit the indefinite detention of deportable criminals and persons constituting risks until they leave the country.
