Merz, Frei: no collaboration with the AfD

(de-news.net) – Friedrich Merz, the Union’s chancellor candidate, has reaffirmed his stance against collaborating with the AfD, underscoring the party’s far-right elements. He assured that there would be no cooperation with the AfD. Instead, the CDU/CSU sought to garner support from the SPD and Greens for more stringent migration policies, with the FDP already indicating approval. Merz emphasized the necessity for centrist parties to assume responsibility to enhance Germany’s security situation.

Union parliamentary manager Frei refuted allegations of collaboration with the AfD, stressing that the firewall against the AfD would remain intact, and the CDU/CSU aimed to secure a majority in the political center of the Bundestag. Frei called upon the SPD, Greens, and FDP to cooperate, highlighting public frustration over the lack of action following violent incidents such as the Aschaffenburg knife attack. The Union faction intends to introduce proposals for more stringent migration policies in the Bundestag the coming week.
