CDU discloses plan for stricter migration policies

(de-news.net) – On Saturday, the CDU unveiled its five-point plan for stricter migration policies. The party aims to implement permanent border controls from day one of a Union-led government, entry bans for individuals without valid entry documents regardless of asylum claims, increased deportation detention facilities, deportation support from the federal police, and indefinite departure detention for criminals and persons posing a risk. Individuals required to leave the country would be immediately detained. CDU/CSU Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz emphasized that the five-point paper would be discussed in advance with the SPD, Greens, and FDP only.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Green Party candidate Robert Habeck criticized Union candidate Merz, arguing that his demands violate the right to asylum and European treaties. The SPD and Greens also expressed doubts about maintaining the firewall against the AfD, accusing Merz of accepting AfD votes in the Bundestag. SPD Chairwoman Saskia Esken accused Merz of coercing the SPD and Greens into supporting his proposal in the Bundestag, threatening to form a pact with the AfD if they refused. FDP Chairman Lindner, however, urged former coalition partners to support the Union’s proposal to undermine the AfD.
