Bundestag to improve maternity protection and aiding women and children against violence

(de-news.net) – The German Bundestag is set to pass new legislation on maternity protection for miscarriages this week, with cross-party support from SPD, Greens, and CDU/CSU. The law aims to close a protection gap for women who suffer miscarriages before the 24th week of pregnancy, allowing them to receive sick leave from the 13th week. This initiative is seen as a significant step for women’s rights and democratic culture.

Additionally, SPD, Greens, and Union parties have agreed on several laws to improve protection for women and children against violence. These laws include a “Violence Assistance Act” that will provide victims of domestic violence with a right to protection and assistance from 2030, and a law to enhance protection for children against sexual violence, which includes establishing a victims’ council and an independent commission for investigating sexual abuse. However, there was no agreement on amending the existing “Violence Protection Act” to include electronic ankle bracelets for particularly dangerous offenders
