CDU/CSU proposals on tightening migration policies to be voted

(de-news.net) – The Bundestag is set to vote on proposals from the Union faction aimed at tightening migration policies and enhancing internal security. Prior to this, Chancellor Scholz is expected to deliver a government statement. The proposals from CDU and CSU include the general rejection of asylum seekers at German borders and the permanent detention of illegal immigrants who cannot be deported. Naturalized dual citizens who commit serious crimes could lose their German citizenship, and security authorities would receive more powers. The Union seeks a roll-call vote on these proposals, with the AfD announcing its support. SPD, Greens, and Left Party oppose the measures, referring to German and European law.

FDP leader Christian Lindner announced his party’s support for both the Union’s proposals on Wednesday and the influx limitation law on Friday. He criticized the Greens and SPD for refusing to support the Union’s migration plans, accusing the Greens of facilitating the AfD with their welcoming stance on family reunification. Lindner expressed regret over the lack of unity with SPD and Greens, arguing that their policies do not reflect the security needs of voters. He emphasized the necessity of controlling access to Germany to ensure public safety.

Bavarian Prime Minister and CSU leader Markus Söder expressed confidence that a potential Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) would exercise directive authority more effectively than Olaf Scholz (SPD) in the current coalition. Söder criticized Scholz’s leadership and highlighted the need for change in Germany, dismissing the possibility of a Black-Green coalition due to the Greens’ ideological stance.
