Debate on migration: Wüst (CDU) advocates moderation

(de-news.net) – The NRW Minister-President, Hendrik Wüst (CDU), has called for moderation following the intense debate over the ‘Influx Limitation Law’ in the Bundestag. He emphasized the need for a more conciliatory tone among democratic parties, noting that after the Bundestag election on February 23, it should be possible to sit together and negotiate government formation in a spirit of trust. Wüst warned that if democratic parties foster a culture of incivility, it would ultimately harm themselves and suggested that one should never rule out the possibility that the other party might also be right.

Furthermore, Wüst highlighted the cooperation with the Greens in the NRW coalition, referencing the collaboration following the Solingen attack as proof that achieving good and consistent outcomes on migration and internal security issues is possible through extensive negotiations and compromises. He expressed confidence that similar success could be achieved at the federal level, noting that the lines of communication between the CDU, SPD, Greens, and FDP remained intact even during the heated debate on the Influx Limitation Law the previous week.
