(de-news.net) – Following Monday’s airport strikes, the Verdi union has announced further public sector walkouts in the coming days. The peak of these strikes is expected on Wednesday in North Rhine-Westphalia, where federal and municipal employees will temporarily halt work. While airports are excluded this time, the strikes will impact public transport, city administrations, counties, daycare centers, clinics, savings banks, swimming pools, job centers, employment agencies, and waste collection services.
Air traffic was severely disrupted on Monday when warning strikes at 13 German airports affected 560,000 passengers. The unions are demanding an 8 percent wage increase for public sector employees, with a minimum pay raise of 350 euros per the month as well as three additional vacation days. Employers have yet to present an offer.
