Spahn: 15 euros of minimum wage unlikely in 2026

(de-news.net) – The Deputy Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Jens Spahn (CDU), has expressed disagreement with the assertion in the coalition agreement of the black-red government, that suggested a minimum wage of 15 euros as early as 2026. He remarked that it was unlikely such growth and wage development would occur so quickly.

Spahn noted that forecasts indicated wages would rise with economic growth, potentially allowing the minimum wage to approach 15 euros during the legislative period. Not least, he emphasized that the minimum wage threshold would continue to be determined by the Minimum Wage Commission. He underscored that there would be no statutory minimum wage, as the rate of the base hourly payment would evolve in line with overall wage developments in Germany.
