CDU federal chairwoman Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer would like to see the federal government continue, for some time, paying wage replacements for parents in order to mitigate the consequences of the Corona crisis. The period of entitlement would be extended from six to ten weeks, said Kramp-Karrenbauer.
Since March 30, parents have received, for six weeks, 67 percent of the net income they lost through the negative effects of the Corona crisis – some up to 2016 Euros a month. For some parents, this payment would soon expire. Kramp-Karrenbauer praised the accomplishments of families: “What families are currently doing is enormous, and has my full respect.”
The CDU party leader emphasized that gender equality was highly important, particularly in the Corona crisis. “When the going gets tough, there is usually more pressure on women.” Women should not have disadvantages in their jobs.
