The battered automotive industry may get help from the European Union budget within the rampant Corona crisis. By 2022, an amount of 20 billion Euros could flow into an EU program that promotes the purchase of cleaner new cars. In addition, there could be funding for emission-free motors amounting to 40 to 60 billion Euros. Electric charging stations and petrol stations for alternative fuels could also be funded.
In the meantime, Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) has requested a scrappage bonus for cars, regardless of the drive. “The auto industry is a locomotive for the entire German economy,” he said.
