The EU Commission has called for future funding from the EU budget to be linked to whether or not the principles of the rule of law are observed. Minister of State Roth said that countries which systematically violate the above principles should receive fewer payments. The Federal Government fully supports the said request of the EU Commission and will represent this position in negotiations regarding the budget of the European Union.
