During a visit to the Polish capital, Warsaw, Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas warned against isolating from Russia: “It would put us in a difficult position in Europe if economic relations with Russia were no longer possible.” Maas warned that this was dangerous for Europe’s security interests – and the wrong strategy. With regard to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project, the Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau said: “We are opposed to this project and have been so from the very beginning.” Maas and Rau agreed on other things, such as the EU’s Eastern Partnership program.
