Bas (SPD) elected as new President of the Bundestag

(GermanPolicy.com) – The German Bundestag has elected Social Democrat Bärbel Bas as the successor to Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU) as the new President of the Bundestag. Bas called for a respectful approach in the Bundestag, as well as a dialogue between politics and citizens. Bas would like to encourage women to “get involved in politics.” In addition, electoral law reform should be addressed. Bas received 576 of a possible 724 votes.

In the election of the Bundestag vice-presidents, Yvonne Magwas (CDU), Claudia Roth (Greens), Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP), Aydan Özoguz (SPD) and Petra Pau (left) prevailed. The AfD candidate Michael Kaufmann did not prevail as vice chairman.
