(de-news.net) – It is the end of the traffic light coalition. All FDP ministers have been recalled by their party from the alliance with the SPD and the Greens after Chancellor Scholz had previously dismissed the liberal Federal Finance Minister Lindner due to a lack of confidence. The SPD and the Greens blamed the FDP, while the latter criticized the other two parties.
Scholz said he wanted to put the vote of confidence to the Bundestag on January 15. He justified this by saying that Germany needed political clarity quickly. All priority laws should be passed by Christmas – such as the second pension package and industry investments. It is possible that new elections will be held by the end of March.
Scholz said the FDP was serving its own clientele and had acted in a “petty” and “short-term” manner. “Serious” work was no longer possible for the Federal Government. Federal Minister of Economics Habeck (Greens) regretted the end of the government constellation, as Germany needs unity, the ability to act, as well as stability. Lindner’s dismissal was “logical,” he pointed out.
Lindner, on the other hand, stressed that Scholz did not have the strength to make a change and had brought about a “calculated break” of the coalition with an ultimatum. Scholz had not accepted Lindner’s 18-page paper during negotiations – which contains a number of measures for the economy – as a basis for consultation. FDP parliamentary group leader Dürr, on his part, explained that Scholz had pushed for the debt brake to be suspended.
Scholz now wants to approach the CDU-CSU so that the most important laws be passed by the Bundestag. The Union wants new elections as soon as possible.
