CDU, SPD leaders: convicted migrants should lose their right to remain in Germany

(de-news.net) – Leaders of both the CDU and the SPD have articulated that there should be repercussions regarding the right to remain in Germany for migrants convicted of criminal offenses. CDU Secretary General Linnemann asserted that after a second intentional crime, the right to stay must be revoked. He criticized the current situation where individuals can have multiple convictions without that affecting their residency status. Linnemann proposed amendments to sections 53 and 54 of the Residence Act to eliminate judicial discretion in such cases. He also announced that deportations of asylum seekers without residence permits must be executed more consistently and expeditiously, and that more deportation agreements with other countries, including third countries, are necessary.

SPD leader Lars Klingbeil supports resuming deportations to Syria following the fall of the Assad regime. He stated that it is appropriate to deport criminals to countries like Afghanistan and Syria, emphasizing that those who commit crimes forfeit their right to stay in Germany. However, he noted that the majority of migrants are not involved in criminal activities. Klingbeil criticized efforts to generally pressure Syrian refugees to return, emphasizing that many refugees wish to return and contribute to the reconstruction of their country, and these individuals should be supported. He highlighted that many others have become integral parts of German society, contributing to the country’s strength, including 6,000 Syrian medical doctors working in Germany.
