(de-news.net) – Following the Bundestag’s Interior Committee meeting on the Magdeburg attack, Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) has advocated for the development of new police action plans. She observed that the Magdeburg perpetrator did not conform to any existing profile and exhibited signs of a pathological psyche. Faeser underscored the necessity of investigating the perpetrator’s numerous statements across various networks, as well as the numerous tips and procedures from various authorities in Germany. She emphasized the importance of drawing appropriate conclusions on how such tips should be evaluated and summarized in the future to enable timely intervention.
Faeser highlighted that such perpetrators are often driven by delusional conspiracy theories and do not fit any threat profile, necessitating different indicators and action plans. She mentioned the need for “case conferences” involving all authorities dealing with such individuals, a practice already in place at the Interior Ministers’ Conference for two years.
The minister reiterated the need for all necessary powers and additional personnel for security authorities, a need evident even before Magdeburg. The government’s budget draft includes increased funds for internal security and additional employees for the federal police. Faeser also insisted on legally secure storage obligations for IP addresses in the fight against crime and terrorism, suggesting that if the Union shows willingness, this could be decided within the current legislative period.
