‘Agenda 2030’ – CDU passes tax reform and economic growth strategy

(de-news.net) – The CDU board has unanimously endorsed the ‘Agenda 2030’ during its retreat in Hamburg. The agenda encompasses a phased tax reform. Income tax is slated for reduction, with the top tax rate applicable only beyond 80,000 euros. Conversely, the basic tax-free allowance is set to increase annually. Pensioners who opt to continue working post-retirement will be permitted to earn up to 2,000 euros per month tax-free. The solidarity surcharge is to be entirely abolished, while the citizen’s income will be reverted to a so-called ‘New Basic Security.’

CDU leader Friedrich Merz asserted that robust social policy in Germany is contingent upon a healthy economy. The Union’s chancellor candidate forecasted an economic growth rate of two percent. CDU General Secretary Linnemann stated that the ‘Agenda 2030’ would alleviate the burden on the broad middle class and bolster Germany’s innovative capacity. A “mentality of action” was deemed essential for Germany’s progress. The German Trade Union Confederation voiced concerns regarding the proposed restrictions on citizen’s income. On the other hand, it was pointed out that the ‘Agenda 2030’ incorporates prudent measures such as the tax exemption for pensioners by Marcel Fratzscher, President of the German Institute for Economic Research.
