(de-news.net) – Support for Syrian migrants seeking permanent repatriation has been restored by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). Syria was just added to the return program after more than twelve years. BAMF provides reimbursement for flight tickets and other travel expenses paid for by the federal and state governments to indigent Syrians who are either in the asylum process or in danger of deportation.
A one-time financial aid award of up to €1,700, with a maximum of €4,000 per family, is also available to eligible participants. Additionally, within the first three months after arrival, the program may offer additional funding for medical services in Syria up to a maximum of €2,000 per person.
Due to the perceived risks of returning to a nation engulfed in civil war, Syrians have been unable to access these provisions since 2012. Before this reinstatement, BAMF provided partial cost reimbursements to federal states to support their autonomous return programs. There are currently about a million Syrians living in Germany.
