(de-news.net) – Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced that border controls in Germany will be extended until at least September 15, 2025, as an effective measure against irregular migration. After a cabinet meeting, he made that announcement, citing approximately 47,000 rejections since September 2024 and the arrest of 1,900 human traffickers. The EU Commission has already been informed about the extension.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) emphasized that the actions curbing irregular migration are closely coordinated with neighboring states and in compliance with European law. The Federal Police will continue to carry out internal border controls “targetedly and according to current security requirements,” her ministry explained. Travel, commuter traffic, and economic and trade activities are expected to be minimally affected. However, localized and temporary traffic disruptions cannot be entirely ruled out, the Ministry of the Interior cautioned.
