Chancellor Scholz Targets Reduction in Refugee Numbers

(de-news.net) – Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) aims to decrease the number of refugees arriving in Germany by 100,000 this year, compared to 2024. Scholz prioritized addressing irregular migration following a significant increase in asylum seekers in 2022. His implementation of border controls resulted in nearly 40,000 rejections last year and an overall reduction of 100,000 asylum seekers.

In response to a violent incident in Munich involving an Afghan asylum seeker, Scholz expressed his willingness to introduce new legislation. Although the specifics of the incident remain unclear, he emphasized the necessity of thoroughly reviewing the situation and ensuring the proper application of existing laws, while addressing any legislative gaps.

Scholz guaranteed optimal protection for public events such as carnival parades and other gatherings. He acknowledged the public’s sense of insecurity following a series of attacks, asserting that every violent act is one too many, even in a secure country. Scholz conveyed empathy for public concerns, highlighting the impact of violent incidents in Aschaffenburg, Magdeburg, and Solingen.
