Merz: no amalgamation of economic and climate responsibilities

(de-news.net) – Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz proposes the separation of the economic and climate ministries in his prospective administration. During an interview on Politico’s podcast, the CDU Chairman articulated his critique of the existing structure, labeling it as inherently flawed from its inception. The reorganization executed by the dissolved traffic light coalition in 2021 transferred the domain of climate protection from the Environment Ministry to the Economic Ministry.

Merz categorically dismissed the possibility of Robert Habeck (Green Party) retaining the economic portfolio in the event of a Green coalition participation post-election, citing Habeck’s perceived failure in this capacity over the past three years. Merz further denounced the notion of reappointing a minister he deemed unsuccessful to a department he had purportedly mismanaged. He underscored Habeck’s unsuitability for a dedicated Economic Ministry, emphasizing the inherent deficiencies in the current amalgamation of economic and climate responsibilities.
