Sebastian Hartmann, the SPD’s spokesperson for internal affairs, emphasized the need for enhanced personnel, financial resources, legal frameworks, and authority. He argued that the new administration must significantly increase investments in intelligence services, aligning with practices already adopted by other nations, particularly in focusing on cyber and information domains.

The CDU/CSU echoed this sentiment, advocating for greater digital capabilities. Alexander Throm, their spokesperson for internal affairs, highlighted that Germany’s security heavily depends on swiftly and substantially strengthening its intelligence agencies.

Similarly, the Green Party stressed the urgency of bolstering intelligence efforts. Konstantin von Notz, deputy parliamentary leader and chair of the Parliamentary Oversight Panel for intelligence services, called for greater ambition, funding, and political commitment. He proposed a new European framework, suggesting that a close alliance of leading European intelligence agencies, akin to the Five Eyes partnership, could significantly enhance Europe’s security.
