(de-news.net) – The Union parties and the SPD have resumed exploratory talks, convening at the Jakob-Kaiser-Haus in Berlin’s government district under a confidentiality agreement. CSU Bundestag leader Alexander Dobrindt described the discussions as being in their “final stages,” in a positive and constructive atmosphere. SPD’s Manuela Schwesig expressed optimism about progress. However, migration policy remains a contentious issue, alongside criticism from CDU and CSU regarding the financial package negotiated with the SPD, which includes significant exemptions from the debt brake for defense spending and a 500-billion euro special fund for infrastructure investments.
In parallel, the CDU is reportedly preparing for further steps toward forming a black-red coalition. A party spokesperson confirmed meetings of the presidium and federal executive board scheduled for Monday morning. Should an agreement with the SPD be reached over the weekend, these bodies may deliberate on initiating formal coalition negotiations. Additionally, the joint Bundestag faction of CDU and CSU is set to convene Monday afternoon.
