Miersch: coalition deliberations will be brought to a consensus

(de-news.net) – SPD General Secretary Matthias Miersch has expressed optimism regarding the formation of a coalition with the Union parties, emphasizing that compromises would be reached even on contentious issues. He acknowledged the challenges inherent, referencing the electoral campaign where the parties often represented divergent positions. Miersch highlighted the efforts of the 16 working groups, noting intense deliberations. He concluded that complete consensus was not mandatory and clarified that unresolved matters would be addressed by the main negotiation group, identifying constructive forces within the process.

CDU politician Christoph de Vries had previously cautioned the SPD against obstructing stricter migration policies during coalition negotiations, emphasizing the necessity of a decisive shift in asylum policy for national stability. He underscored the Union parties’ prior concessions on fiscal matters and demanded measures to curb illegal migration. Similarly, Manuel Ostermann of the German Police Union criticized the SPD’s perceived dominance in negotiations. Ostermann warned that failure to deliver on promises could undermine the government’s credibility before its inception.
