Agreement in the public-sector collective bargaining

(de-news.net) – The negotiations in the public sector collective bargaining have resulted in an agreement, as announced by representatives of employers and trade unions. The outcome largely follows the recommendations of mediators from late March: salaries will immediately increase by 3%, with a minimum raise of 110 euros per month. Additionally, on May 1, 2026, there will be another increase of 2.8%. The 13th month’s salary will also be adjusted upward, and the package includes higher shift allowances.

Federal Interior Minister Faeser described the agreement as a positive resolution providing balance in challenging times. Verdi Chairman Werneke expressed that accepting the outcome was not an easy decision for his union. Meanwhile, the negotiator for the union “dbb Beamtenbund,” Geyer, stated that the agreement could accommodate the interests of everyone involved.

The negotiations at the federal and municipal levels were accompanied by warning strikes and, after the third round in mid-March, were initially declared failed, leading to mediation efforts. The current agreement is set to last for 27 months, ending in March 2027.
