Coalition agreement: policy shift announced, swift agreement called for

(de-news.net) – Leading CDU politicians emphasized the necessity of a significant policy shift following coalition negotiations, asserting that a continuation of the status quo was unacceptable. CDU General Secretary Linnemann highlighted that public opinion polls underscored the importance of not only a robust coalition agreement but also decisive actions by the new government. Parliamentary Secretary Frei stressed that the coalition would recalibrate policies in the areas of economics, migration, and defense.

Meanwhile, the German Association of Cities and Municipalities expressed optimism for a swift agreement on the coalition contract, advocating for a focus on essential points rather than excessive detail. André Berghegger, the association’s chief executive, remarked that both citizens and municipalities anticipated the formation of a capable government to address numerous international and domestic challenges. He emphasized the importance of establishing key principles to position Germany, while allowing flexibility for unforeseen developments. Berghegger underscored the need for a sustainable financial framework for municipalities, highlighting the significance of simplifying investment processes and enhancing financial resources.

Regarding migration, the association called for measures to regulate and significantly reduce illegal entry into Germany, in coordination with European partners. Berghegger advocated for effective border controls, expedited residency status evaluations, and prompt deportations of individuals without the right to remain. Concurrently, he emphasized the necessity of enhanced support for integrating individuals with long-term prospects and creating favorable conditions for the immigration and integration of skilled professionals.
