Speed monitoring throughout most parts of Germany

(de-news.net) – This week, police in many parts of Germany are intensifying speed monitoring of drivers and other road users, aiming to enhance road safety. Speed checks are notably being conducted near schools and construction zones. According to the German Automobile Association (ADAC), 14 of Germany’s 16 federal states are participating in the initiative, excluding Saarland and Berlin.

Some states, including Bavaria and Thuringia, are focusing their efforts on Wednesday, the primary campaign day. Bavaria alone has approximately 1,500 monitoring stations, as reported by the state’s Ministry of the Interior.

The primary objective is to curb speeding, protect lives, and raise awareness about the importance of responsible driving. Official statistics from the Federal Statistical Office reveal that 2,780 people died in traffic accidents in Germany in 2024, many as a result of excessive speed. The ADAC considers the “speed-check marathon” a meaningful contribution to improving road safety by highlighting the dangers of speeding to road users.
