Klingbeil does not exclude tax increases

(de-news.net) – Lars Klingbeil, SPD chairman, does not rule out tax increases under the anticipated CDU/CSU-SPD government. He emphasized the importance of financial resources to strengthen Germany and Europe, advocating for openness in addressing the current financial situation. Klingbeil highlighted the coalition’s ambitious investment program and emphasized the need for prioritization in the budget, including income tax reform and relief for small and medium incomes. Klingbeil calls for greater responsibility from high earners, referencing the solidarity surcharge for the top 10% of incomes.

The coalition agreement does not explicitly exclude tax increases, leaving room for future evaluations. CDU leader Friedrich Merz opposes tax increases but acknowledges the possibility of reassessment in turbulent times.
