(de-news.net) – Katharina Reiche, the new German Minister for Economic Affairs (CDU), has presented a strategy to stimulate the country’s economy. It focuses on investment incentives, lower energy costs, and reduced bureaucracy. She stated the need to improve business tax depreciation and restructure corporate taxation to promote investment.
A review of the gas storage levy is planned to address the negative effects of high energy prices, especially on energy-intensive sectors. A preliminary relief package is being developed and should be available before the parliamentary recess in mid-July. The role of gas-fired power plants is a key issue that requires immediate coordination with the European Commission.
Reiche emphasized the importance of foreign trade policy during increasing global economic strain. She committed to initiating discussions with the United States, alongside the European Commission, to create a new free trade agenda. She stated her opposition to tariff disputes and supported collaborative trade relationships. The rapid implementation of trade agreements with Mercosur and Mexico is also a key priority.
Furthermore, a primary objective is enhancing communication between the government and businesses. Reiche emphasized that mutual trust and dialogue are necessary for effective policymaking. She asserted that private enterprise, not only government investment, must actively drive economic growth for it to be sustainable.
