(de-news.net) – Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche (CDU) has expressed her intention to intervene in legislative initiatives originating from other ministries when they are perceived as detrimental to economic growth. She criticized Federal Minister of Labor Bärbel Bas (SPD) for her proposals concerning minimum wage adjustments and pension reforms, asserting that intervention from the Minstry for Economic Affairs is warranted in light of recent labor policy initiatives.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has advocated for the complete repeal of both the national supply chain legislation and the corresponding EU directive. This position surpasses the stipulations outlined in the current coalition agreement and has provoked criticism from the SPD. While Reiche reaffirmed her adherence to the coalition accord, she did not exclude the prospect of additional policy actions. She emphasized that the immediate priority should be the elimination of reporting requirements, followed by the more ambitious objective of reducing administrative burdens on businesses by 25%. Reiche underscored the significance of this goal, noting that even the European Commission has acknowledged the excessive nature of current regulatory obligations.
Furthermore, Reiche asserted that the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs must place a greater emphasis on fostering economic growth. She noted that the ministry has, in recent times, been perceived predominantly as a department focused on climate and energy policy, thereby necessitating a recalibration of its strategic priorities.
