1,676 individuals denied entrance to Germany since border checks were established

(de-news.net) – The number of border rejections in Germany has increased substantially since the inauguration of the new federal government early Ma: according to data from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Federal Police denied entry to 1,676 individuals between 8 and 22 May.

By comparison, 511 individuals were turned away in the week preceding the establishment of the new government, as noted by Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) during an official visit to the German-Austrian border. Cumulatively, 12,044 individuals have been refused entry thus far in 2025.

Dobrindt asserted that the latest figures underscore the efficacy of the reinforced border control measures, expressing appreciation for what he characterized as the Federal Police’s professional and diligent execution of their duties, according to media reports. On 7 May, the day following the election of Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), Dobrindt had issued directives to intensify border checks.
