(de-news.net) – After Federal Minister for Youth Karin Prien (CDU), Federal Minister of Justice Stefanie Hubig (SPD) has joined in, emphasizing the necessity of the introduction of an age restriction on children’s use of social media. She justified this by stating that well-defined legal provisions are essential for ensuring a stress-free upbringing, according to media reports. Hubig also highlighted that these measures would alleviate the burden on parents, who otherwise face significant challenges in managing and supervising their children’s online activities from day to day.
Daniel Günther (CDU), the Minister President of Schleswig-Holstein, similarly expressed support for more stringent policies. He proposed the possibility of prohibiting certain platforms for individuals under the age of sixteen. Reportedly, in June, a CDU policy motion will be introduced, which could form the basis for national legislation on this issue. Australia has already implemented a statutory age restriction on social media usage, providing a potential precedent for similar regulations in Germany.
