(de-news.net) – Ulrich Mäurer (SPD), the Interior Senator of Bremen and Chair of the Conference of Interior Ministers, has advocated for more stringent immigration controls. In an interview, he emphasized that admitting 600,000 individuals annually is unsustainable and places considerable strain on housing, education, and internal security.
Among the concerns Mäurer highlighted was the correlation between uncontrolled migration and public safety. He characterized violence against women as a serious societal issue and expressed deep concern over its prevalence. He reaffirmed his support for the Spanish model, which mandates electronic ankle monitors for offenders by judicial decree. This system enables proximity alerts for potential victims for anti-stalking protecting or imminent threat situations, with Mäurer underscoring that implementing such measures aligns with federal coalition objectives. The necessary legislative framework will now have to be established, according to Mäurer.
Since 2008, Mäurer has led the Conference of Interior Ministers, which will convene in Bremerhaven from June 11–13 to address key issues, including the potential adoption of the Spanish model for managing high-risk offenders.
