(de-news.net) – Alexander Hoffmann, chairman of the Christian Social Union’s parliamentary group, has praised the Social Democratic Party (SPD) for its cooperation on migration policy within the coalition, according to German media. He noted the SPD’s current pragmatic stance deserved recognition.
Hoffmann also pointed to the SPD’s strong sense of public responsibility. Both SPD and CSU seemed attuned to public opinion—about two-thirds of Germans reportedly support changes to immigration policy, he said, suggesting this alignment underpinned broad support for the coalition’s direction in policy.
Additionally, Hoffmann emphasized the key role of Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) in efforts to curb unlawful migration. Hoffmann asserted that Dobrindt had helped restore trust in a policy area marked by previously lessening public confidence.
