(de-news.net) – The CDU/CSU intends to abolish the possibility of naturalization after three years and thereby reform the immigration law by autumn. According to press reports, the domestic policy spokesperson of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, Alexander Throm (CDU), emphasized that the conferral of German citizenship constitutes a “highly significant administrative act,” as the status, once granted, cannot be revoked. Therefore, thorough scrutiny is of particular importance.

Thomas Silberhorn (CDU), another domestic policy expert in the German parliament, stated that the so-called “turbo naturalization” should be eliminated and that each and every application for citizenship must be examined with due diligence. He criticized the current acceleration of naturalization procedures in Berlin, arguing that such practices undermine ongoing legislative efforts.

Roman Poseck (CDU), Minister of the Interior of Hesse, asserted that the previous traffic light coalition had committed a grave error by granting citizenship in an excessively arbitrary manner. He described the process as a “highly sensitive procedure” that implicates national interests. Accordingly, naturalization should only occur following the successful completion of an integration process.

The termination of the option to acquire citizenship after three years had already been stipulated in the coalition agreement between the CDU/CSU and SPD.
