(de-news.net) – The Administrative Court of Cologne has upheld the legal procedures taken by the Federal Press Office and Meta against a ban imposed by the previous Federal Data Protection Commissioner, ruling that the Federal Government may continue to run its Facebook page. Due to data privacy concerns, the Commissioner prohibited the use of the page in 2023, claiming that cookies were being used to store personal information without users’ consent. The court’s ruling states that Meta alone, not the federal government, is in charge of guaranteeing data protection compliance. Stefan Kornelius, a government spokesperson, underlined the significance of Facebook as an essential part of public communication and the government’s duty to educate the public. The decision has not yet become enforceable.
