(de-news.net) – In June 2025, approximately 45.9 million individuals were employed in Germany. According to preliminary estimates by the Federal Statistical Office, seasonally adjusted employment experienced a marginal decline of 20,000 persons compared to May. Unadjusted figures revealed a minor decrease of 4,000 individuals relative to the previous month, diverging from the typical upward trend observed in prior years, which averaged an increase of 41,000 in June. In comparison to June 2024, the employment level remained largely unchanged.

During the second quarter of 2025, the average number of employed persons stood at 46 million, reflecting a modest seasonally adjusted contraction of 7,000 relative to the preceding quarter. In the same reference month, June 2025, the number of unemployed individuals rose to 1.58 million—an increase of 76,000 or 5.1 percent year-over-year—raising the unemployment rate to 3.6 percent. Seasonally adjusted data indicated a slight month-over-month decrease in unemployment to 1.61 million, with the corresponding rate remaining steady at 3.7 percent.

In July, unemployment rose notably to 2.979 million, approaching but not exceeding the three-million threshold. The unemployment rate consequently increased to 6.3 percent. Seasonally adjusted underemployment decreased by 10,000 persons. The President of the Federal Employment Agency, Andrea Nahles, attributed the rise in unemployment to seasonal factors associated with the onset of the summer holiday period, noting a marked reduction in the reporting of new job vacancies by employers.
