(de-news.net) – Over the past five years, Germany has experienced a marked increase in the demand for air conditioning systems, attributed to rising ambient temperatures. According to the Federal Statistical Office, domestic production rose from 181,000 units in 2019 to approximately 317,000 units in 2024, representing a 75.1 percent increase. The production value reached 1.5 billion euros, the highest level recorded in the past five years—an increase of 34.4 percent.

Imports also exhibited substantial growth, with their value rising by 48.2% to 949 million euros. In 2024, Italy emerged as the leading source of imported units, accounting for 25% (€237 million), followed by China with 13.7% and Sweden with 10.4 percent. The peak import value was recorded in 2023, amounting to 957 million euros.

Conversely, exports of air conditioning systems declined slightly by 2.8 percent, totaling 713 million euros. It should be noted that the data excludes air conditioning systems and components intended for automotive use. Despite the upward trend in production and imports, Germany continues to lag behind southern European countries in terms of the prevalence of building air conditioning systems. The German Weather Service has reported that recent temperature increases within Germany have surpassed the global average.
