A spokesperson for the Ministry for Digital Affairs and State Modernization indicated that such verification mechanisms should become a standard practice across Europe. Although existing European Union legislation currently precludes the implementation of compulsory age checks akin to those outlined in the United Kingdom’s Online Safety Act, the German government seeks to revise the regulatory framework in alignment with the provisions of the coalition agreement.

To this end, the government is engaged in consultations with the European Commission and other member states, with the objective of developing a practicable and user-oriented approach to implementation.
