He emphasized that a sustainable solution must involve both levels of government and extend beyond annual budget cycles.

Given the ticket’s widespread adoption—now used by nearly 13 million people—Schnieder underscored its significance in Germany’s public transport landscape. He noted that legislative efforts to secure continued financial support are already underway.

To address potential cost overruns, a joint working group has been formed to explore viable strategies and determine how any additional financial burdens should be distributed among stakeholders. These discussions aim to safeguard the ticket’s affordability while ensuring fiscal responsibility.

Regarding future pricing, Schnieder made clear that any adjustments must comply with the coalition agreement. He stated that substantial increases in user contributions are not expected before 2029. Until then, any price changes would be limited to inflation-related adjustments, preserving the ticket’s accessibility for consumers. The minister reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the Deutschlandticket as an attractive and practical option for everyday travel.
