Government advances comprehensive plan to combat organized crime

(de-news.net) – The Federal Government has unveiled plans to intensify its campaign against organized crime through the implementation of a comprehensive plan developed jointly by the ministries of Finance, Justice, and Interior. The initiative is designed to strengthen authorities’ investigative capacity, particularly with respect to suspected money laundering, while simultaneously expanding digital analysis tools and enhancing interagency information sharing. Officials framed the plan as a strategic effort to target criminal organizations that engage in long-term illegal activity, including extortion, drug and weapons trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering, and, with growing frequency, cybercrime. By focusing on the financial underpinnings of these operations, authorities aim to disrupt illicit revenue streams and weaken the operational capabilities of organized networks.

Approved by the Federal Cabinet, the so-called ‘Joint Action Plan’ establishes mechanisms for more efficient data exchange between the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and customs authorities, and integrates artificial intelligence to support analytical and investigative processes. Interior officials highlighted that the BKA would receive additional personnel and enhanced enforcement powers to strengthen operational reach, while justice authorities underlined that organized crime erodes public confidence in the rule of law. They emphasized that prompt investigation, prosecution, and sentencing are essential to uphold legal accountability and deter criminal activity, framing these measures as both preventive and punitive.

Nationwide operation targets politically motivated online crime

As part of its enforcement strategy, investigators conducted a nationwide operation targeting politically motivated online criminal activity across all federal states. According to BKA reports, several searches were executed in response to unlawful social media postings, including incitement, defamation, and the use of emblems associated with terrorist or unconstitutional organizations. Among the 140 investigations initiated during this campaign, slightly more than half were linked to right-wing extremist offenses, while the remainder involved left-wing extremism, religiously motivated content, or ideologically driven foreign extremist activity. Officials characterized the operation as an example of coordinated federal-state enforcement that addresses emerging forms of digital crime alongside traditional organized criminal activity.

Members of the Bundestag’s Green Party faction welcomed the Federal Government’s strategy, emphasizing the severe social and economic consequences of drug, weapons, and human trafficking networks. They argued that dismantling such criminal structures requires comprehensive investigations coupled with systematic asset confiscation to eliminate the financial resources that sustain illicit operations. While acknowledging the benefits of improved data sharing between agencies, they stressed the necessity of legal safeguards and a unified national framework to ensure both effectiveness and accountability. They advocated for increased staffing, the creation of joint investigative teams, and clearly defined jurisdictional authority across state boundaries to prevent duplication, maximize operational efficiency, and deliver a decisive impact. According to the Greens, targeting the financial lifelines of organized crime represents the most effective mechanism to dismantle entrenched criminal networks and protect the rule of law.
