Federal Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer (CSU) wants a reform of the Federal Office for Civil Protection. Seehofer said in an interview that the federal office can so far only been called for when it comes to internal tensions and in the event of necessary defense. This is difficult to convey, he said. The minister would like the office to be able, in future, to help in the event of a pandemic, forest fires, floods or similar disasters. For this, the legal framework conditions might have to be adjusted, he indicated.
