Protection of the Constitution will monitor extremist communication

Federal Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer (CSU) has announced that the grand coalition has reached agreement on the powers of the Constitutional Protection against extremists. The SPD has approved more digital competencies. The Union parties then decided against the online search measure, in which the constitutional protection would have had access to the hard drives of extremists. Data protection experts had spoken out against such measures as well.

In future, telecommunications surveillance should be possible in source-based cases using Trojan software at the source. Encrypted communication should also be monitored in this way, for example online telephony and messenger chats. For technical reasons, however, the use of Trojans could endanger the security of computers and mobile devices against hackers from outside.
