Federal President Steinmeier opts for determination against hatred and racism

Federal President Walter Steinmeier has called for people to stand up against racism. On the occasion of a UN campaign, Steinmeier wrote that racism endangers free coexistence, peaceful diversity and even democracy. The hatred has not paused during the Corona lockdown. This was proven by comments on social media.

Counter-speech and the means of the rule of law are important, Steinmeier said. This requires a civil society that shows determination.

In the Federal Republic of Germany, about 1200 actions are planned within the two-week UN action. Most of the readings, exhibitions, debates and workshops, including those against anti-Semitism and discrimination, take place online.
