Steinmeier appeals to sense of community in Easter address

The German Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has appealed to citizens, in his Easter address, to take responsibility and prove social cohesion in the face of the Corona pandemic. “Let’s all get together,” he said. In the fight against the pandemic, it is not a question of getting upset with “those up there” or with other people. Rather, it is important to prove that “things work if everyone does their part” – despite a crisis of confidence among a part of the population. It is time for clarity, decisiveness and pragmatism, Steinmeier said. This, he suggested, could strengthen confidence in democracy, despite restrictions during the next few weeks. A few days ago, Steinmeier had been administered, for the first time, the Astrazeneca vaccine.
