According to the Federal Employment Agency, the situation with a view on vocational training has become more difficult. So far, only around 285 young people in Germany have applied for an apprenticeship position – 32,000 fewer than in 2020. There are 468,000 vacant apprenticeships. Nevertheless, many people are still looking for a suitable apprenticeship position, which, in part, is due to the corona pandemic, which led to a situation in which internships and job fairs could not take place. Federal Education Minister Karliczek emphasized that well-trained specialists would be needed after the pandemic.
